REPLACE YOUR ID CARD

NOTICE: The cost to replace an ID Card is $25. The Campus Cards Office will assess this charge to your student account.

To request a replacement ID card, please fill out an ID Card Request Form. Once your form is reviewed by our staff, you will receive an email notifying you when your ID card is ready for pickup.

Please note that only students enrolled/registered for the current quarter may receive a new ID card. Students who are not enrolled/registered for the current quarter, students who previously graduated, and students who no longer attend UCSD are ineligible to receive a new ID card.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR ID CARD?

MY ID CARD IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY

We would be happy to test your card on-site to see if we can fix it. Please visit our office during business hours to have your ID card tested. If it is determined that you need a replacement, a new card will be printed for you. Your student account will be assessed the $25 replacement ID card cost.

CAMPUS ID CARD WEAR AND TEAR POLICY

At UC San Diego, we aim to provide students with high-quality Campus ID cards that are durable and functional. However, over time, wear and tear from regular use or accidental damage may cause the card to malfunction. Please review our policy for replacing damaged ID cards:

  • Normal Use: Campus ID cards are designed to withstand typical use. However, like any item, they can show signs of wear over time—such as fading, bending, or scratches—especially if the card is exposed to extreme conditions (e.g., bending, being kept unprotected, or exposed to heat/water).

  • Accidental Damage: If your card becomes damaged due to an accident (e.g., a cracked or broken card), this is considered "accidental damage" and will not be covered under the ID card replacement policy.

As part of our policy, all replacement cards will incur a $25 fee. Students who lose their card or require a replacement due to wear/tear are expected to cover this cost. If you believe your card has been damaged due to something outside of normal wear and tear, please reach out to our office, and we'll assess the situation.

  • For current students who need to update their current ID card with their new or updated lived name: for a limited time, there is no cost to update your ID card (one time only, per person). Any replacement ID cards due a name change thereafter will cost $25. Please be sure to update your name via the Social Identities Tool prior to submitting your replacement campus ID card request.
